Privilege, Power, and Difference

1. In the beginning of Privilege, Power, and Difference  Alan Johnson expresses that,"we are all part of the problem." Which means that everyone to blame for the inequalities and giving privileges in the world, and in part Johnson blames each person. This quote is very relevant because according to Johnson, everyone can work together in order to start making chances in solving the issues in privileges. For instance, if people who are wealthy do not accept they belong to a more privilege category it can be hard to find solution to equality. And the same goes for the other categories that are privileges.

2. On page #10 Alan Johnson says he is part problem "If I don't see how that makes me part of the problem of privilege, I want to see myself as part of the solution. This means that he agrees that he is belongs to a category of privilege and that society is afraid to assume they are privilege. One of the reasons people with privilege are less likely to accept they do, is because they know that their privileges can be in danger if they are expose. For instance, someone that was born wealthy can buy apartments and just live of those who can not afford them.

3.  On page #40 Alan Johnson writes that "just as privilege tends to open doors and opportunity, oppression tends to slam them shut." This means that certain groups can maltreat and affect others which makes a connection to the first quote that we all are the problem. For instance, when it comes to gender we are giving certain toys that we have to use depending in the gender that people consider that belongs to us. In addition, when it comes to jobs people also tend to assume that men are more capable then women are without giving a chance for women to demonstrate their capacities.

Alan Johnson argues that we are the problem in how privileges are distribute in the world and that if we do not take action it will never stop and argues that differences are not the problem and that ignoring the privileges is the real problem.
